What is the role of potassium in aquascaping?
Potassium is classified as part of essential macronutrients for plants. Potassium allows the movement of water, nutrients and carbohydrates in the plant’s tissue. At the same time it also regulates the rate of photosynthesis. Yellowing of older leaves may indicate a potassium deficiency but over-dosing potassium will also have the same symptom when potassium causes the depletion of nitrogen. Over dosing potassium will also cause the deficiency of minerals that are part of General Hardness (GH), magnesium and manganese. Generally speaking, a concentration of 15-35mg/l will give the best result.
How to maintain potassium and prevent GH deficiency with Seachem?
By using the recommended dose of Equilibrium, it will increase GH by 3dGH and potassium by 15mg/l. Followed by twice a week recommended dose of Seachem Flourish Potassium it will total the concentration of potassium to about 20mg/l. During water changes, Seachem Equilibrium should be measured according to the amount of new water being added to the aquarium.
