Introduction
Along with nitrogen, phosphorus is part of a very important group of macronutrients. It plays a role of regulating protein synthesizing which is important for cell division and tissue development. Plants with phosphorus deficiency often show symptoms of stunted growth of roots and leaves. In order for plants to effectively absorb phosphorus, a certain ratio between nitrogen and potassium have to be maintained. A well maintained concentration and ratio will not only promote the plant's health but also prevent algae growth but an off ratio tank will cause algae to grow. Therefore it is not only necessary to maintain a proper concentration but also an optimum ratio as well.
Why Seachem Flourish Phosphorus?
Unlike other competing products that have a fixed mixture of nitrogen to phosphorus ratio, Seachem Flourish Phosphorus doesn’t contain any nitrogen. This allows the user to dose according to the plant’s absorption while maintaining a proper ratio.
How to use it?
2.5ml of Seachem Flourish Phosphorus on 80L water will raise the testable phosphate by 0.15mg/l (0.05mg/l phosphorus). Use this dose as frequently as needed to maintain the desired concentration. We recommend keeping a phosphate concentration of 0.2 - 0.5mg/l while keeping nitrate at 2mg/l. This will result in a ratio of 7-10NO3 : 1 PO4. Do adjustment according to the needs of your tank. Keep in mind that if your aquarium is overgrown with algae but your plants are stunting while maintaining the proper concentration of nutrients, this could mean that there are other factors that are causing stunted plant growth while the algae is absorbing your nitrate and phosphate. Lighting, CO2 concentration and temperature or water condition and many other factors can cause a plant to be stunted.
